How this crazy website works – or how we hope it will work.

This is not your conventional recipe slash cooking website, and because of that we want to explain our insanity of Ideals … we are creating a food site for Kids and families, so that cooking becomes an event, a virtual dinner theatre. (see video on left)
You get to play like you are in a foreign country, cooking its foods, speaking its language (even if it’s a few words for now) and get into the culture. To do that we have an introduction to the culture, inserted language tracks (we will be laying down more all the time) and posting recipes that have some story and connection to where it came from or how it came about.

So, we, being part of the Foodie G (oh yeah G = generation), designed this website so that our fellow Foodies can work in the kitchen as independently as possible, to become Empowered, and eventually take over the Kitchen. This is where my parents are REALLY grateful !!

This Foodie website is an introduction to cooking for today’s generation of young foodies. It’s intent is to be a hip, multi-cultural portal written for kids by kids and, like any great story telling, it starts at the beginning with basic foundational story line or in this case, its recipes. It will guide children along a path to cooking comfort and introduce them to delectable, multi-cultural,easy to make dishes.

As their kitchen confidence swells and their taste buds engage their imagination, the recipes keep in step and challenge each of the young chefs to create variations of the foods they personally like. Now, this is the exciting part, for each recipe contains a kernel of gold in the form of a suggested option that they can incorporate into their budding repertoire of dishes.

Why all the questions with the recipes - asking questions of the young chefschallenges them to wonder, where might they go from here? Which ingredients and spices used by other cultures might be added? Perhaps I could use turmeric or sweet basil? What if I incorporated smoked paprika or herbes de Provence? And finally, what would Ilike to do differently next time? These newbies are equipped and empowered to enhance or seek a balance to any dish by boldly leaping into the imaginative world of food. You can see their faces beam with pride as they unveil their newest creations for the whole family to enjoy. These young chefs will develop the freedom to express themselves with food.

A word from a Foodie and Mom of Foodies

Having taught children French cooking classes – I learned that ALL children can come to love a variety of foods. The only secret is exposure. They relish at their own awakening of tastes – it is pure joy to witness. As the notion of educating one’s child spreads to the kitchen, today’s Foodie Generation is becoming known as the generation that turned the meaning of food around. They recognize and reject the the old ways of eating.The authors hope its ideas and simple recipes will relay the fun and satisfaction of cooking that is so beautiful, and so life comforting.

As we say in France ; “Cook for your kid everyday and you will have a fed child. Give a kid a cookbook and you’ll give winged teeth for life.”
